Mission Statement The mission of Expert Language Instruction (ELI) is to open communications among diverse people through the teaching of language and culture. By teaching the skills needed to speak and understand not only a new language but also a new culture, ELI enables people to fully enjoy the benefits of living in an unfamiliar culture. To achieve its goal, ELI is committed to offering a wide range of interesting, informative, and unique classes. At ELI, we understand that learning is a lifelong process and that learning a language is not complete even after perfecting the grammar rules. We understand that people wish to and need to learn in different contexts. We understand that students learn best by studying a subject that interests them. That’s why, in addition to grammar and pronunciation classes, we offer classes in American culture, business and academic writing, speaking and listening, and much more. We are continuously evaluating our programs to ensure that we meet the needs of our students. Through student feedback we discover which programs students want and then offer those programs. By offering small classes we are able to give students more personal attention and give them greater opportunities to practice what they are being taught. The ELI approach to teaching makes students want to learn and helps newcomers feel confident and comfortable communicating in their new language. Before beginning class, each student is given a needs analysis and/or assessment test to determine the appropriate course content and level of instruction. After this analysis is completed, a course focus, materials, and instructor are chosen to meet the student's specific needs. In this way, we ensure that we are meeting the student's unique needs right from the start. At Expert Language Instruction we use a variety of instructional materials: text books, audio tapes, CDs, video tapes, newspapers, periodicals, and cultural literature. Specialized materials for special learning topics are used when appropriate. For example, business or computer manuals may be used to teach the specific language terms associated with those subjects. As another example, children's storybooks and games may be used when teaching young children. We select materials based on the specific needs of each student and we continuously evaluate the newest materials on the market in order to keep abreast of the latest teaching methods. Instructors are highly qualified, well-trained professionals dedicated to helping students achieve their language goals. Instructors care about their students and about their students' successful learning experience. Many class formats are available. We offer individual classes consisting of one student and one teacher and group classes consisting of multiple students with one teacher. Our standard individualized courses are 48 hours long with meetings 2 days a week for 2 hours each time. Shorter or longer classes may be easily arranged according to student needs and desires. Alternate schedules for those who wish to meet fewer or more times each week are also easily arranged. Intensive courses meeting several hours daily are available upon request. All students are given the opportunity to evaluate their courses and their instructors. This important feedback enables us to continuously evaluate and improve our courses in order to give you the best possible instruction and the best value for your money.
